Abstract: Previous research has illustrated how systems outsourcing decisions are influenced by core competence situation, resource situation and other contingent factors. In this paper, value configuration is introduced as a determinant of systems outsourcing decisions. Survey research was applied in this research covering the largest business companies in Norway. Empirical results indicate that the extent to which companies with the value configuration of a value network are outsourcing functions is substantial higher than the alternative configurations of value chain and value shop.
