Abstract: This paper describes faulty decisions: the first, a faulty diagnosis due to judgment impaired by the unsuitable circumstances in which the decision was made; the second, because inappropriate emotion impaired judgement; and the others, a consequence of inappropriate, premature and dramatic publicity by the media. Decision making in the glare of publicity is difficult.
Keywords: impaired judgement; media publicity; adverse reactions to drugs; brain abscess; chloroform anaesthesia; sweetening agent; anti-diabetic drugs; oral contraception.
