Abstract: A procedure for the analysis of the performance of a complex network system is proposed, based on recently introduced measures of topological interconnection and reliability efficiency. An example of application of the procedure is provided with respect to a real tramway transport system, which turns out to have small world characteristics when considered as an open system inclusive of walkway connections to short-range, neighbouring stops.

Keywords: complex network systems; structural topology analysis; reliability efficiency; tramway transport systems; small-world networks; trams; critical infrastructures; topological interconnection; walkway connections.
