Abstract: Recently, rechargeable lithium-ion batteries (Li-ion) have been used as a suitable energy storage source in many applications due to their advantages. Reliability is a key factor in battery utilisation, same as any other process. It is essential to know how reliable a battery cell or pack is. Hence, it could be more precise to predict the failure time of the battery. The main multiple purposes of this paper are to assess the reliability of the typical battery packs/cells, to estimate their failure rate and to evaluate their lifetime by some probability distribution function. In each case, the proper approach is determined and the reliability of the battery alongside its predicted failure time is estimated. Also, it can be estimated what percentage of batteries (in stationary energy storage) are going to fail in a desirable operating time. Reliability calculations are performed within the Minitab software.

Keywords: Li-ion battery; reliability; Weibull; failure rate; predicted lifetime.
