Abstract: In India, elementary education system is decentralised to ensure community participation and efficient learning environment. School stakeholders play an important role in decentralised education system. Though government schools are supported by CSR, very little is known about its impact on stakeholders. A study was conducted to examine the views of school stakeholders about CSR programs in their schools. Sample consisted of 200 teachers, 100 headmasters and 100 members of school management committee from 100 schools of Bangalore. They were interviewed using a semi-structured interview schedule. Results show that though stakeholders considered CSR beneficial to schools, there was no clear understanding of the philosophy or the role of CSR. Expectations from CSR support differed in the three groups. However, respondents wished for a greater role and involvement in CSR activities in their schools. CSR programmes that are need-based and involve school stakeholders will make CSR work more effective.
