Abstract: The aim of this paper is to identify the factors that foster small business resilience. We examine resilience as an organisational-level capability that can be developed over time and manifest itself during crises. The three hypotheses, derived from the extant literature on organisational resilience, are as follows: 1) planning is a factor fostering organisational resilience among small and medium-sized businesses; 2) adaptive capacity is a factor fostering organisational resilience among small businesses; 3) planning and adaptive capacity together are factors that jointly promote organisational resilience among small businesses. To measure these three factors, we use the short version of the benchmark resilience tool developed by the University of Canterbury in New Zealand. Our findings suggest that planning as well as the combination of planning and adaptive capacity decrease the chances of Armenian SMEs being affected by the recent COVID-19 pandemic approximately by 30%, while adaptive capacity without planning does not have significant impact on COVID-19 consequences. Therefore, the aforementioned first and third hypotheses were accepted while the second one was rejected in the results of our analysis.
