Abstract: This theoretical-reflexive essay seeks to add to the debate on alternatives for the conception of a Green Production model, analysing the contributions offered by the design thinking approach. The hermeneutic and interpretative methodology was adopted, providing a comprehensive dialogue between the authors selected for this research. The researchers were careful to choose both classic, seminal and contemporary authors, texts from books and journals, on issues related to sustainability, production management, design thinking and green production, fostering a rich environment for the exchange of ideas and perceptions about possible thematic convergence. In conclusion, characteristics of the design thinking approach permit the identification of details regarding operational activities, which could be omitted when using other approaches, like those of a positivist and rational nature.

Keywords: production management; green production; design thinking; sustainability; operations; hermeneutic; interpretative approach; conception of the theoretical framework.
