Abstract: Disc brakes have evolved over the time to be a reliable method of decelerating and stopping a vehicle. There have been different designs of disc brake systems for different applications. Despite all the improvements, many operational issues related to disc brakes need to be understood in greater detail and resolved. There has been a lot of research about these issues; at the same time, different methods are being proposed to eliminate or reduce them. This research article is focused on the rattling noise of disc brake assembly, which is the result of time-delayed wear failure of annulus present on caliper bracket in which guide pin slides. The article also shows the investigation of the root cause behind the wear failure through analysis of mechanical properties, mainly hardness and material composition of both the mating components.

Keywords: disc brake; disc brake noise; guide pin; wear failure of caliper bracket; disc brake wear failure.
