Abstract: This paper review and analyses the literature on quality function deployment (QFD), in the context of construction management. A preliminary review of the literature clearly suggests that QFD methodology has not been extensively used for strategic decision making in construction projects. This result is surprising owing to the wide application of QFD across the spectrum of other industries. A thorough literature analysis is done to identify various unique characteristics of construction projects which have prevented the application of QFD for strategic decision making in them. Consequently, research directions are discussed along which QFD tools must be further developed. Development of these tools will increase the QFD application in construction management, thereby making the methodology more robust. At the same time, increased application of QFD in construction management would lead to the extension of many quality concepts from other industries to construction industry.
