Abstract: School burnout among young people is an increasingly common topic. The syndrome may be affected by external factors such as addiction or the environment, but also internal factors, which may include emotional dysregulation or personality structure. In the study, student school burnout scale (SSBS) was used to measure the level of burnout, the level of personality structure was measured using dirty dozen scale (DTDD), and SOC-29 to measure sense of coherence. The research was carried out among 147 students from Poland and the USA between 17-19 years old. School burnout significantly correlated with all the tested constructs. Simple mediation effects of psychopathy, Machiavellianism and sense of coherence on the association between emotional dysregulation and school burnout were confirmed. The serial multiple mediation of narcissism and sense of coherence in the relationship between emotional dysregulation and school burnout was signicant. Dark traits play an important role in enhancing and sense of coherence in alleviating the effect of problems in regulating emotions on student burnout. Furthermore, to decrease student burnout for individuals with emotional dysregulation, it is important to enhance the sense of coherence and minimise the antisocial impact of dark traits.
