Abstract: Despite extensive research over the last decades, there remain considerable uncertainties as to the risks of low doses of ionising radiation as encountered in nuclear medicine. The effective dose to a population is a very important factor in the estimation of risk. The main goal of this study is to determine the effective dose to members of the public from diagnostic nuclear medicine in the northern province, Mazandaran, of Iran.
