Title: Modes pairing strategies for model updating procedure performed on spatially incomplete modal data

Abstract: Strong demand for high-fidelity dynamic models of mechanical systems puts pressure on an accurate characterisation of the input parameters. Model updating is a procedure that gains popularity as a tool to refine the model and identify the correct values of its input parameters. This paper describes the methodology of model updating, performed based on the results of the experimental modal analysis with an emphasis on the process of modes pairing. Modes pairing is usually required during the comparison between different sets of modal data and can be challenging when imperfections and noise are present in experimental results. Spatially incomplete modal vectors are a common example of such imperfection. Different methods of dealing with such cases have been described in this paper including some novel technics. The performance of those methods has been compared based on the practical example of the FE model of automotive shock absorber.
