Title: The port of Valencia maritime network: an analysis of centralities and tree-optimisation

Abstract: This paper analyses the maritime network of the port of Valencia (Spain), which is the specific part of the global network that uses the port of Valencia. Four metrics of centrality are used to identify the ports that occupy crucial positions in the network. Then Kruskal's algorithm is used to obtain the minimum spanning tree (MST) that highlights the main maritime corridors to/from the western Mediterranean via Valencia. Our findings are important from the perspective of the Port Authority, which can use the outcomes of the research to strengthen cooperation with other ports through twinning agreements. In addition, this article can serve as a valuable reference for liner operators interested in the design of liner services to/from the western Mediterranean area.
