Abstract: Performance parameters of environmental management system (EMS), based on HR dimensions and organisational dimensions are important measures for the successful implementation of EMS in any manufacturing industry. This paper identifies the various EMS variables for the successful implementation of EMS in the small and medium enterprises (SMEs) of India. Various measures of collected data of survey of Indian micro scale industries and SMEs have been validated and analysed by using SPSS software. The collected data have been analysed by statistical tools like importance-index and corrected item minus total correlation (CIMTC) methods and reliability of these data has been tested by Cronbach's alpha (α) analysis. The computed results show that the identified measures are highly reliable for implementation of EMS in Indian SMEs. This study shows that 53 items out of 54 items of 9 variables are having the values of Cronbach's alpha (α) more than 0.70 and it shows that the collected data are highly reliable for Indian SMEs. It is also found that the values of Cronbach's alpha for the employees' 'empowerment' and 'training' and awareness are above 0.80 and rest variables have the values of Cronbach's alpha (α) in the range of 0.50-0.80 for micro scale Indian industries.
