Abstract: At present, to compete openly in global markets, two concepts are needed to generate competitive advantages: innovation and sustainability. Several studies have presented strategies to relate them. However, a model that promotes the sustainability dimensions through innovation focused on an integral recognition is needed. The aim of this research is to determine the influence of innovation factors on a sustainable development model. The methodology consisted of analysing and selecting a published model of the innovation process as well as one model of sustainable development to identify the correlation between them. For this purpose, an instrument of analysis was designed and was applied in the ceramic coating sector in Tlaxcala, Mexico. The information obtained was analysed by means of statistical analysis. The results showed significant correlations and a model of Innovation-Sustainable Development was proposed, concluding that the model represents a new way to promote sustainability through a culture of innovation.
