Abstract: In this paper, we suggest a distributed relay selection (DRS) algorithm for energy harvesting (EH) systems. Each candidate relay amplifies the source packet only when its signal to noise ratio (SNR) exceeds SNR threshold γth. Relay nodes harvest energy from radio frequency (RF) signals received from the source. Both harvesting duration and SNR threshold γth are optimised to maximise the throughput. Our results are compared to opportunistic amplify and forward (OAF) and uniform relay selection (URS).

Keywords: DRS; distributed relay selection; energy harvesting; cooperative systems; Rayleigh channels; packet error probability; optimal harvesting duration.
