Abstract: In recent years, debates on sustainable development have focused on the need to move towards the consolidation of a practical dimension of this concept. In this context, biosphere reserves have assumed the commitment of positioning themselves as test laboratories for the search of sustainable development strategies, posing the challenge of generating successful experiences at a global level. Based on a case study of Parque Atlántico Mar Chiquito Biosphere Reserve, this work proposed an evaluation methodology to determine the potential of establishing a model of sustainable development in these spaces. The results achieved have allowed identifying key factors in the construction of a sustainable development model and to weigh the usefulness that territorial management instruments could have as a strategy to achieve the articulation between use and conservation and to achieve sustainable management of biosphere reserves.
