Abstract: Learning core concepts of signal processing courses is extremely challenging for students in electrical engineering sciences. This is due to the gap between understanding the mathematical and theoretical concepts and their application in practical perspective. Contemporarily, problem based learning (PBL) is one of the activity-based learning (ABL) pedagogies, which facilitates effective bridging between theory and practice. This paper presents the implementation of PBL concept in signal processing application in Electroencephalogram (EEG) signals. The crafting of authentic, realistic and open-ended problem in four cycles for students along with the outcomes of the activity are demonstrated. Here, the focus is on PBL implementation and diverse practices to address above mentioned cycles. The results of this experimentation are promising in exhibiting the improvement in skills of the students towards solving of the real-world problems. This confirms that the PBL activity in engineering education significantly improve the overall performance of upcoming graduates.
