Abstract: The 6TiSCH protocol is widely used in industrial internet of things (IIoT) applications. It forms a destination oriented directed acyclic graph (DODAG) to transfer packets from child nodes to their parent nodes. Proper parent selection is crucial to ensure optimal network performance. In this work, we have used a multi-criteria decision making method-technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS) in the process of parent selection. This technique enables a child node to select the fittest parent node by evaluating four key criteria: expected transmission count (ETX), buffer status index (BSI), number of transmission attempts made (NumTX), and packet generation rate index (PGI). Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed method improves network performance by increasing the network lifetime and reducing upstream latency. Simulation results show that the proposed method improves performance by increasing network lifetime by 23% and reducing upstream latency by 7%.
