Title: Synthesis and characterisation of titanium coating on steel CRM 487/1 by magnetron sputtering

Abstract: In the present study, titanium particles are deposited on CRM 487/1 steel at room temperature, 200°C, and 400°C and its characterisation was investigated. The deposited high-speed steel is characterised by different experimental techniques. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) is used for film morphology showing atoms have a tiny size at low temperatures, but as the deposition temperature rises the atom's sizes increase, and field emission electron microscopy (FESEM) for cross-sectional image analysis. However, a profilometer is used for measuring the film thickness and roughness. It reveals that coating thickness is minimum at 400°C and roughness is minimum at room temperature. The XRD equipment was used for obtaining available phases, crystal sizes, and lattice strains of titanium samples at different temperatures.
