Abstract: It is important to evaluate the efficiency of occupational health and safety management systems (OHSMS). This study aims to evaluate the cost efficiency of the occupational health and safety management system (OHSMS). Efficiency will be assessed in a panel between 2020 and 2022 through a case study embedded in 18 business units in Brazil based on internal benchmarking. Cost efficiency was assessed using data envelopment analysis (DEA). The results show that six of the decision making units (DMUs) manage economic resources efficiently, becoming a benchmark for the others. The DMUs with the lowest efficiency and the most significant resource gain to reach the levels of the best DMUs were also identified. This study contributes to expanding scientific knowledge on the importance of cost efficiency in occupational health and safety systems and presents a methodology to improve resource management.
