Abstract: This study explores the impact of process mining on process discovery and assessment in robotic process automation (RPA) using a qualitative, two-phase interview approach. Findings indicate process mining positively enhances accuracy in process discovery due to accurate event logs. However, manual intervention remains crucial, especially for complex processes, as process mining alone is insufficient. A framework was developed to integrate process mining into RPA initiatives, offering a standardised methodology. Only 13 of 63 relevant process metrics are directly attainable with current process mining algorithms, highlighting the limitations of this approach as a sole source. The proposed framework, including a fitness funnel and robotics development lifecycle management, provides a structured, data-driven approach to optimise RPA implementation, resource allocation, and ROI.
