Abstract: The purpose of this research is to make various interactive systems which can understand human emotions. Such systems should have a database defining what a human emotion is. The authors introduce 'linked data' as a data model to make the database. This paper explains the method to build the linked data which especially focus on relationships between a Japanese emotion word and its emotional intensity. As an example application, the authors also introduce a facial expression system using the linked data. The system analyses his/her voice messages by referring to the linked data, and determines what kind of emotion the user feels. This paper also shows several evaluation results about how much the facial expression system can understand emotions of its users.
