Abstract: It is often said that the society of tomorrow will be a society of services, and that the new activities of our civilizations will develop in intangible areas without major energy requirements. This is quite conceivable, but on condition that we remember that the vital needs of humanity, the humanity of yesterday, of today and also of tomorrow, first rely on the possibility of having energy which is abundant, easy to use and cheap.
