Title: The metaphysics, ethics and politics of environmentalism
Authors: Tibor R. Machan
Addresses: Chapman University, USA
Abstract: This paper accepts the idea that environmentalism must pay attention to some metaphysical-ethical features of human life. It argues, accordingly, that the normative presumptions of the field are serious and roughly right: we can do something about how we interact with the environment. In particular, it argues that a certain ethical-political controversy has direct bearing on environmental matters.
Keywords: metaphysics; ethics; politics; environmentalism; collective action; environmental management; human nature.
