Abstract: This papers explores a case of intranet implementation in an Italian company, analysing communicational routines, repertoires of knowledge and the ways the Intranet changes (or reinforces) them. Workgroups| expectations and skills affected interpretations of the intranet, along with organisational history and innovation strategies. While the company management considered this technology as leading to a new strategy in internal communication, the workgroups| interpretations were more oriented to integrate it into different ||communicational repertoires||, both integrative and substitutive of previous practice. New and old media interact with each other, contributing to emergence and erosion of temporary communities of practice.

Keywords: intranet technology; communicational routines; communities of practice; Italy; intranet implementation.
