Abstract: This paper describes the process of the design of radar for application in a system for humanitarian demining. The application requires new solutions to assist in solving the problem of clearing of areas of anti-personnel mines. The initial technical requirements on the radar were vaguely known, but were developed in more detail during the first research activities. It has been of prime importance for the viability and quality of the design that researchers from many different groups have contributed. The paper provides some examples of such contributions. The results of the project have gained the interest of industrial manufacturers.
