Abstract: This paper examines the concept of metastability in a single stage synchronizer and provides a measurement procedure to experimentally determine metastability parameters necessary to calculate MTBF characteristics of a system. We describe how a high speed digital storage oscilloscope can be used for signal data acquisition and statistical analysis, instead of a high resolution time interval measurement setup that is the main part of our experimental system for MTBF characteristics evaluation
