PUBLISHERS OF DISTINGUISHED ACADEMIC, SCIENTIFIC AND PROFESSIONAL JOURNALS
Author Open Access Order Option

Authors can now request Inderscience to make their articles accepted for publication available online and openly accessible to all without any restriction except use for commercial purposes. This means that readers may access, read, download or print out the article free of charge, even if their library does not hold the journal on subscription. In exchange for these facilities, authors will pay Inderscience a simple fee to cover the cost of publication.

Inderscience continues to publish its journals on subscription. This option caters for authors that want to ensure that their work is available to anyone free of charge, Inderscience's Author Open Access Option enable authors to pay a modest fee to provide open access.

Inderscience will treat all papers submitted for publication in exactly the same way, with rigorous peer review, professional editing and production, and worldwide publication, including inclusion in the CrossRef citation linking system and in appropriate indexes. If the author takes up the Author Open Access Option, the article will be designated as open access in the journal.

Open Access Option process

The publishing process, from supporting the journal’s editorial office to peer-review, to the editorial and production processes required to publish the journal in print and host it for online access, involves significant costs. The costs of open access publishing therefore have to be met by the author, or the author’s institution or research funding agency. We therefore seek a simple publication fee of USD $3,000, or EUR €2,300.

Authors should submit papers to the Inderscience journal of their choice in the normal way. Only when the paper has been accepted for publication will the author be given the choice of proceeding with publication in the traditional way, or of choosing the Author Open Access Option. If the author selects the Open Access Option, the order form on the web site should be completed and the fee paid:

  • Authors should pay using the online order form on the Inderscience web site by credit card, except where his/her institution or research funder is paying, in which case the order form should be completed so that an invoice may be raised.
  • Authors in the USA, Canada and the Americas should pay in US Dollars ($3,000); all other authors should pay in Euros (€2,300).

Author Open Access Option & Copyright

When authors opt for Inderscience Open Access Option to publish their articles, they retain their copyright, but are required to agree to the Inderscience Open Access Option terms and conditions, which are set out in the Order Form. These include a warranty that the article is original and is not in breach of anybody else’s rights or otherwise unlawful.

Inderscience Open Access and Libraries

Inderscience Open Access Option is designed to give our authors a choice. This will mean that, in time, Inderscience journals may contain a mixture of articles published under the established subscription-based model, and open access articles paid for by their authors. Inderscience will track the volume of open access articles published in each of its journals, and will adjust subscription prices in future years depending on the proportion of open access articles published.

Inderscience open access articles will be clearly identified online as such. They may be viewed, downloaded, printed and used by readers under the terms of a Creative Commons Attribution-Non-commercial-No Derivatives Licence (www.creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/3.0/). They may copy, distribute and transmit the article to their colleagues, attributing the article to the author, the journal in which it is published, and Inderscience as publisher. Use for commercial purposes, and alteration or transformation of the article in some derivative work are prohibited.
