Abstract: This case study of light combat aircraft illustrates the use of concurrent engineering principles to enhance manufacturability and to reduce development cycle time. Use of composites has helped in realising an aircraft that is small, light, cost effective and easily manufacturable. Concurrent engineering helped simultaneously in reducing the cycle time, improving manufacturability, reducing parts count and improving the case of upgradability. This was possible though high level of horizontal coordination.
Keywords: concurrent engineering; horizontal coordination; light combat aircraft; manufacturability; new product development; cycle time reduction; simultaneous engineering; manufacturability.
