Abstract: The control system for the sterilisation of oil palm fruits is designed not just to guarantee suitable sterilisation but also to minimise the fluctuations in the overall steam demand, which could reduce the factory output. Here, the automation requirements of the sterilisation process in palm oil mills and features provided by microprocessor-based systems are examined, before concluding with a brief description of a low-cost system that is currently under development.
