Abstract: This paper discusses several aspects concerning the evaluation of hybrid electric powertrain systems. Using the example of a fuel-cell/supercap-based hybrid electric powertrain system, the influence of the power management on typical evaluation parameters such as efficiency, availability of the system and its components is discussed. Based on experimental investigation on a given (pre-known) load profile, an optimisation approach is presented using simple operation strategies. It can be shown that after a few iteration steps a near-optimal solution is found.
