Abstract: The role of global value chains (GVCs) has been increasing worldwide including Thailand, where economic growth currently relies more on total factor productivity (TFP). However, the effect of GVC participation on countries' TFP is ambiguous. The relationship between the GVC and TFP of Thailand was examined using secondary data. Results showed that R&D expenditure, backward GVC participation and forward GVC participation were positively related to Thailand's TFP. GVC participation with developed countries was shown to generate higher positive effects.
