Abstract: Roof bolts are widely used in mining as ground support. To develop a quick and non-destructive method for estimating the supporting quality of grouted roof bolts, the characteristics of impact response waves are investigated. Particular attention is paid to the effects of resin grout and cement grout on the wave response properties. The acceleration of resin-grouted bolts and cement-grouted bolts are recorded using axial impact in the laboratory environment to characterise the system's dynamic response. The dynamic properties of wave propagation of the roof bolts have also been analysed by using the finite element method (FEM). The numerical results of the dynamic properties are consistent with the laboratory result. This research has shown that the dynamic properties of wave response for the resin-grouted bolts and cement-grouted bolts can be used as a benchmark for the integrity diagnosis of roof bolts using impact response.
