Web-based and agent-based approaches for collaborative product design: an overview

Abstract: A number of emerging technologies including CSCW, distributed objects, intelligent agents, internet and web based technologies have been proposed to implement collaborative product design systems, while web-based and agent-based approaches are dominant in this area. This paper reviews the state-of-the-art of applications of the Web and Agent technologies to collaborative product design, and discusses the opportunities as well as challenges in this exciting research area.
