Abstract: With the rapidly development of automobile, rail transit and aviation, the lightweight of modern transportation is becoming the common choice to conserve energy and reduce emission. At present, the development of lightweight technology focuses on the large-scale application of new lightweight materials such as high-strength steels, light alloys and composite materials, the problems of forming, jointing and processing technology in the material application process, and the cost reduction of new material application. In recent years, researchers of Beijing Laboratory of Metallic Materials and Processing for Modern Transportation (MMPMT) has made a series of progress in the study of new lightweight metal materials for modern transportation. This paper will introduce new high-strength steels, new aluminium alloys, copper-aluminium composite materials and their processing technologies.
