Special Issue on: “Energy-based Analysis of Wear: Advances and Future Trends”

Guest Editor: Prof. Hisham A. Abdel-Aal, University of Wisconsin – Platteville, USA

Tribo-systems are representative of many engineering devices that entrain relative motion between complying surfaces. Examples of such systems include bearings, brakes, metal removal operations, electrical contacts, etc. Although energy based investigation of wear originated in the early decades of the twentieth century, further development of the theories and investigation methods have witnessed subsequent considerable decline. The tribology literature, therefore, is rich with mechanical, continuum based studies but with a considerable lack of thermo-energetic oriented studies.

The past decade or so has witnessed a resurgence of energy-based analysis of wear and failure in tribo-sytems. This special issue of the IJMPT is dedicated to documenting the recent advances and future trends in this field of investigation.
