Abstract/Summary: Nowadays, most manufacturing industries are confronting rapidly changing market requirements. Various kinds of manufacturing information systems such as product data management (PDM) and enterprise resource planning (ERP), have been introduced as solutions for surviving in a competitive environment. However in traditional engineering, each system is commonly operated in isolation, and efficient communication between systems is difficult. It is essential to communicate across heterogeneous systems and create, manage and integrate all products and manufacturing related information. This research proposes a methodology and prototype system for product, process and resource (PPR) information exchanges and integrated managements in a collaboration portal system. We define a bill of material (BOM) neutral file that is in eXtensible Mark-up Language (XML) format based on the PLM services standard. Eventually, we implement software modules to support PPR information exchange across commercial computer-aided design (CAD), PDM and ERP systems from diverse suppliers.
