Abstract/Summary: Building information modeling, BIM, addresses process improvement in civil construction throughout the building lifecycle based on a central information model. This paper discusses strategies for realizing BIM concepts by introducing established PLM methods and tools to civil construction projects. It illustrates the case with experience and lessons learned from a successful PLM introduction to a large construction project at Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron DESY, a particle accelerator center in Hamburg, Germany.
