Abstract/Summary: Supreme precision at a high throughput is characteristic for micro cold forming. Working in the corresponding close production tolerances depends on the correct adjustment of related parameters. In contrast to semiconductor manufacturing, the adaption of parameters in micro cold forming is not very advanced, yet. Therefore, experts take over the adaption of processes, machines and work pieces in daily practice. Expert systems offer the possibility to automate and accelerate this procedure as well as to support user without the necessary expert knowledge. This contribution presents an approach to model expert knowledge related to micro cold forming. Further, the concept of an expert system for automatic process configuration using artificial neural networks is presented and explained by reference to an example from the field of micro deep drawing.
