Abstract/Summary: This communication deals with the definition and implementation of a lessons learned system (LLS) into a product lifecycle management (PLM) architecture. A LLS is a method to capitalize the past experiences in order to create new knowledge and improve process performances. The work was completed as part of a PhD thesis in partnership with Saft Bordeaux, a world leader in complex high tech battery systems. In order to stay current in this competitive field, Saft has decided to take advantage of PLM implementation to deploy a LLS. In this paper we review the current state of the art in LLS’s and the possible impacts on future products of knowledge capitalization. We then define the characteristics and mechanisms similar to all LLS’s and methods to anchor them to PLM architectures. Finally we present a deployment approach to the configuration and modification of process management that was successfully deployed by Saft.
