Abstract/Summary: The proposed paper summarizes the results of the ‘benefits of PLM’ study conducted in the German automotive industry in 2009. The study has been carried out for the third time since ten years. In the first part, the study assesses the maturity of PLM implementation of the participants and clusters them into PLM leaders or followers. After that, the impact of the PLM implementation status on key performance indicators as well as on achieved PLM benefits is investigated. Finally, best practice implementation strategies of the PLM leaders are identified and described in detail. The results of the study provide valuable information and support guidelines for PLM decision makers in the industry during the current strong economic crisis.
