Abstract/Summary: The servitisation process of manufacturing companies requires a shift in business focus from designing and selling physical products, to designing and selling a product-service system. Its aim is to generate profits, not only at the point of sale but also throughout the whole life-cycle. In this context, it is becoming relevant to engineer these solutions through all their life cycle phases. For this purpose, it is necessary to rely on a well-framed PSS engineering process. Aim of this paper is to understand ‘how’ (in terms of characteristics) an engineering process and in ‘what order’ the engineering phases are performed within a company, then identifying and reporting some current available good industrial practices and limitations. The paper reports two case studies which will be the base for the development of a methodological approach to support the companies in the identification of a set of coherent leverages for the engineering contents of a PSS.
