In recent years, online learning support systems have attracted much attention from educators and researchers. Various successful applications as well as the potential of online learning support systems have been revealed. In the meantime, the fast development of online learning support systems is affecting the way of instructional design as well as the learning environment for individuals. It has been commonly acknowledged that knowledge acquisition and understanding are a process of construction according to individual experience. According to the definitions of “personalized learning” and “adaptive learning”, technology essentially aims to accommodate to the diverse individual characteristics and preferences with adapting to the on-going progress of a learner’s ability to completely perform learning tasks whenever and wherever by individual paces. Therefore, it is important to investigate the trends of personalization/adaptation in the ubiquitous learning environment and to develop personalized/adaptive ubiquitous learning support systems as well as examine their impacts in the different aspects.

The aim of this special issue is to invite researchers who are engaged in personalized/adaptive ubiquitous learning studies to share findings and opinions related to the trend analysis from different perspectives based on literature review or data collected from relevant studies and to the development of personalized/adaptive ubiquitous learning support systems.

Subject Coverage
Suitable topics include, but are not limited, to the following:

  • Review and trend analysis of algorithms or mechanisms adopted or proposed in personalized/adaptive ubiquitous learning support systems
  • Review and trend analysis of pedagogies adopted or proposed in personalized/adaptive ubiquitous learning support systems
  • Review and trend analysis of application domains in personalized/adaptive ubiquitous learning support systems
  • Review and trend analysis of personalized/adaptive ubiquitous learning support system issues
  • Review and trend analysis of personalized/adaptive ubiquitous learning support system research methods
  • Review or propose conceptual framework for developing personalized/adaptive ubiquitous learning support systems
  • Propose or develop personalized/adaptive ubiquitous learning support systems
  • Case report of pedagogical implementation of personalized/adaptive ubiquitous learning support system
  • Conduct research for examining impacts of developing personalized/adaptive ubiquitous learning support systems
  • Prediction of paradigm shifts of personalization/adaptation in ubiquitous learning
