Abstract: In recent years, the increasing growth of city logistics has considerably affected the quality of life and existing methods of supplement in urban areas. By reviewing, this research systemises the current state of urban freight transportation and its relevant issues to provide a more solid basis for further research opportunities. Research examines that current challenges are primarily related to urban sprawl, lack of scientific data, financial concerns and stakeholder acceptability. Moreover, legal, practical and ecological barriers are highly important both for the field of urban freight as well as for the implementation of urban consolidation centres (UCCs). Solutions to overcome the defined issues are provided e.g., the need of detailed planning and establishing credible business models. Based on this review, areas of concern and the impact of possible new changes are identified. Solutions are provided as well as the importance of implementing flexible policies, restrictions and preferences regarding urban freight.
