Abstract: This study aims to develop a new experimental setup to measure friction between two interacting fibres. Friction experiments have been performed with two individual aramid fibres placed in perpendicular contact with each other. It is found that the setup is able to determine the frictional force between two interacting fibres of micrometers diameter. Reliable and repeatable measurement data have been obtained using different load, pre-tension and fibre length values.
