Abstract: The amount of learning resources in internet has grown rapidly in the recent decades. As a result, information consumers are facing the challenges of choosing the right content and get accumulated with confusion. Inevitably intelligent tutoring system (ITS) has gained a great deal of attention in this area. This work examines the existing ITS, presents the design and implementation of self-adaptive agent-based tutoring system aimed for engineering students to learn java. Device adaptation and content adaptation are supported in this system. The key aspect of the proposed system is that each agent is deployed based on monitor analyse plan execute (MAPE) reference model. Hence, adaptation is achieved at each agent level which leads to entire system adaptable. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the system, it is experimented with 80 students studying in VI semester of BTECH degree. The evaluation result reveals that 80% of slow learner's performances are improved gradually.
