Abstract: One of the main developers, funders, and users of expert systems technology in the United States is the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). With the movement from the space age to the space shuttle age to the space station age, artificial intelligence (AI) technology, especially expert systems, is expected to play a significant role in space-related activities in the years to come. This paper surveys some of these NASA-supported expert systems applications.
