Abstract: This article summarises the results of a NATO research workshop on advanced information technologies for industrial material flow systems, that took place in Grenoble in June 1988. The participants developed a research agenda through four research panels: material flow data and knowledge; communication and intelligent systems; planning and control models; and implementation and economic issues. The results are presented in the context of computer-integrated engineering.

Keywords: computer-integrated engineering; economic issues; graphics; human-machine interface; HMI; information technology; materials flow; modular configurable machines; NATO; natural language.
