Abstract: The paper describes the feasibility investigation of a model referenced adaptive control strategy for controlling the velocity of a pneumatic cylinder under different loading and load orientation conditions. The evaluation of the adaptive strategy is performed using digital simulation, a standard and important tool used in system design. The power bond graph technique is used to assist the development of the mathematical model representing the dynamics of the pneumatic cylinder system. Simulation results indicate that the model referenced adaptive control strategy is feasible for the control of the velocity of the pneumatic cylinder under a wide range of loading and load orientation conditions.
